Hi all,
In keeping with my prior theme of writing the emotional thriller novel, I present the following quote from Donald Maass’ Writing the Breakout Novel (Writer’s Digest).
“In short, a premise is any single image, moment, feeling or belief that has enough power and personal meaning for the author to set her story on fire, propel it like a rocket for hundreds of pates, or perhaps serve as a finish line: an ending so necessary that every step of the journey burns to be taken.” (35)
If that doesn’t sound like a thriller-tight plot, I don’t know what does!
So instead of writing the meandering, exploratory and introverted emotional novel, why not write a novel of emotional exploration that “burns” and is propelled toward a pulse-pounding, thrilling emotional conclusion?
Seems like sound logic to me.
Best,
Lisa
